Ocean Beach

The quirky beach town of Ocean Beach is a lively part of San Diego Coastal. Nearby neighbors of Ocean Beach are Downtown San Diego, Mission Beach, and Point Loma. Ocean Beach is nearby Mission Bay, the beautiful salt-water bay that is a favorite destination in the area. Visitors to Mission Bay can enjoy Mission Bay Park, an enormous manmade aquatic park which offers space for those interested in wakeboarding, jet-skiing, other water sports, sailing, and camping.

Ocean Beach lies at the end of I-8, which makes the town easily accessible for residents and visitors. The main street of Ocean Beach, Newport Avenue, is filled with many quirky shops, delicious eateries, unique boutiques, tattoo parlors, dive bars, local surf shops, small charming hotels, and much more. Along the main road lie the town’s schools: Ocean Beach Elementary, Sacred Heart Academy, and Warren-Walker. Once students reach middle school, they make the commute to neighboring communities to receive their education.

Ocean Beach has many interesting landmarks including Ocean Beach Park, Ocean Beach Athletic Area, and the Ocean Beach Municipal Pier. Ocean Beach Pier, which extends 2,000 feet across the water, is the longest pier made of concrete along the West coast. There are many local events that happen often in Ocean Beach that add to the vibrance and unity of the community. The Ocean Beach Kite Festival, which happens in March, highlights local artists and showcases their masterpieces. In June, the Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off brings together chili-masters from all over the nation in a chili competition. The Street Fair is a large, fun festival with food booths, all kinds of entertainment, and fun family activities. In September, residents enjoy the Jazz Festival and then can attend the Ocean Beach Christmas Parade in December to conclude a fun year of events and activities.
