Kensington

A part of San Diego Central County, Kensington is a neighborhood found in Mid-City bordered by I-15 to the west and I-8 to the north. Because Kensington is at a central location, it is conveniently located near the central San Diego business district and neighbored by many attractions and important sites.

Across the I-8 from Kensington is Qualcomm Stadium, one of San Diego’s larger multi-purpose facilities that is the home of the San Diego Chargers and the San Diego State University Aztecs football teams. Because of its close location, on game days, Kensington commonly experiences extra traffic and activity. Qualcomm Stadium, though primarily a football stadium, can be configured for soccer and baseball and has housed several special events over the years.

Montgomery Field, the general airport just a few miles north of this community, is home to around 600 aircraft and boasts a 3,400-foot lighted runway. Montgomery Field is one of the most attractive city airports in the US because of its many aviation support facilities.

Near San Diego State University, Kensington enjoys a small influx of university students. San Diego State University is the third oldest university in the California State system and one of the oldest higher education facilities in San Diego County and the state. SDSU welcomes 34,000 students and has more than 200,000 graduates in its alumni base.

There are several large malls that are just a short drive from Kensington, with Westfield Shoppingtown Mission Valley as the closest. Kensington is also conveniently located close to the San Diego waterfront area and Bay area, Balboa Park, and the San Diego Zoo.
