Bonita

Found in between the cities of Chula Vista, National City, and San Diego, Bonita is part of San Diego County’s southern region. Over the years, Bonita has contributed to the county’s varied and unique atmosphere. Bonita rests along a 5-mile stretch of the Sweetwater River and its surrounding valley and hills.

To reach Bonita, residents can jump on and off Interstate 805 quickly and easily to efficiently access many surrounding areas. Neighborhoods such as Bonita Downs, Bonita Fairways, Bonita Glen, Bonita Highlands, Bonita Long Canyon, Bonita Woods, Bonita Woods Park, Emerald Ranch, Lynwood Hills, and Ames Ranch, are a mix of a number of different housing developments built during the 60s-80s during the housing boom.

Bonita is relatively more rural than most of San Diego County and therefore, is able to house many different kinds of wildlife including coyotes, raccoons, foxes, rabbits, squirrels, possums, and skunks. Residents are able to co-habitate peacefully with these creatures and even enjoy their presence. Because Bonita has an interesting location geographically, its temperature follows suit. Residents enjoy a milder and more pleasant climate than areas such as El Cajon because of its inland valley location that combines with the coastal breeze that reaches the area.

An annual event that brings the whole community together is Bonitafest, an annual parade and street fair. Because of Bonita’s rural atmosphere, it also offers residents attractive recreational opportunities, including walking trails, large parks such as Sweetwater Regional Park, Summit Meadow, and Sweetwater County Park, and equestrian opportunities.
