Old Town and Bay Park
Old Town San Diego is at the heart of the story of California’s birth. Spanish settlers established a permanent settlement in this area of San Diego in the 18th century, which spawned the growth and settlement of the rest of California. Just north of Old Town San Diego and beside Mission Bay is Bay Park. Both Old Town San Diego and Bay Park residents enjoy charming communities that are conveniently located at the crossing of I-5 and I-8.
The University of San Diego is in between Old Town San Diego and Bay Park. This university consists of six schools and offers bachelor, master, and doctoral programs. The largest part of this institution is the College of Arts and Sciences, which includes most programs. The five professional schools within the university are in business administration, leadership and education sciences, law, nursing and health science, and peace studies. Hosting almost 5,000 students and over 700 faculty members, this private university contributes to much of Old Town and Bay Park’s populations.
Both neighborhoods contain a mix of both commercial and residential districts, including various types of properties and many shopping plazas. Old Town hosts numerous kinds of shopping plazas, each dedicated to celebrating the heritage and history of the area.
